CNG cylinders on commercial vehicles can be mounted in a variety of places. One of the newest mounting locations on garbage trucks is in the rear tailgate. Mounting the CNG cylinders in the tailgate reduces the overall vehicle height.
On the red truck, the panels have been removed to show the composite cylinders. Once covered up, the cylinders are barely noticeable. Some clues to look for are open cutouts near the cylinder valves (white truck photo) or reflective tape on small access panel covers (blue truck). In some cases, there is no reflective tape on the small access covers, but the silhouette and bolts of the covers are visible up close (green truck)
